WHAT IS VOLGA ?
VoLGA is a technology approach for mobile operators to deliver voice and SMS over LTE.Mobile operators evaluating Long Term Evolution (LTE), the next-generation, all-IP mobile access network, realize they must support voice and SMS services from the beginning. So The VoLGA Forum was initiated to specify and promote an approach for extending traditional GSM and UMTS circuit-switched services over LTE access networks.
WHY VOLGA ?
There are few disadvantage with the current working specification of LTE network in the approach to support voice and SMS. The problem with IMS-based VoLTE is that:
(1) The specifications have not been completed. There is no agreed approach.
(2) IMS is an all IP technology, and there is no circuit switched connection. Mobile operators on the other hand have circuit switched networks. So the proposed method is to use CSFB to support SMS and circuit related service.CS Fallback (CSFB) was defined in 3GPP as an interim step to overcoming the voice over LTE problem.

TD-SCDMA is based on spread spectrum technology, which uses Time-division duplexing, in contrast to the FDD (Frequency division Duplexing) scheme used by WCDMA. By dynamically adjusting the number of timeslots used for downlink and uplink, the system can more easily accommodate asymmetric traffic with different data rate requirements on downlink and uplink than FDD schemes. Since it does not require paired spectrum for downlink and uplink, spectrum allocation flexibility is also increased.
TD-SCDMA is the Chinese contribution to the ITU's IMT-2000 specification for third generation (3G) wireless mobile services. TD-SCDMA (3G) mobile technology has enormous potential in the largest mobile market in the world, with sales of over five million handsets a month. China has no wish to be dependent on Western technology, and this has led to investment in the new standard.

The telecom data center being critical to the organization’s operation has special provisions for its environment, power supply system, data communications connections and high security. The era of dot.com bubble brought the boom in data centers. The Internet presence, a must for the companies, required fast Internet connectivity and reliable 24/7 operations. This was a very expensive proposition for smaller companies with limited resources. To overcome the imitation faced by small companies, companies built large scale facilities called Internet data centers, which had large number of servers & equipment and the part of facilities were given on hire to whosoever required Internet presence. The evolution of this new business of data center brought about some new innovations in design, construction & management of these large scale data center facilities. Read more
Telecom towers are the integral part of the telecom network infrastructure. In fact they are the most expensive to build and the valuations are heavy. The business has outgrown itself that most of the companies have hived off the tower business as its own entity.
Tower business is making news lately for the explosive growth and exponential investments involved. It requires a lot of investment to survive and the smaller companies are finding it difficult. There has been some consolidation which has happened already.
Indus Towers a joint venture of Vodafone, Bharti Airtel and IDEA is formed.
Indus Towers = Ortus Infratel Holding (Vodafone - 42%) + Bhart Airtel (42%) + IDEA (16%)
American Tower Corp has acquired Xcel Telecom towers for 700 crores.
Quippo Telecom has acquired Spice Telecom’s tower business and Tata Teleservices WITIL is merged into it.
Read moreIndia has become the 2nd largest mobile wireless network in the world. India has overtaken US and stands after China in the global market. The scenario was quite different before. Around ten years back India was not even one tenth of the world’s market leader of that time. For years US has ruled the market as a leader. It was just three years back that China has overtaken the USA and proved itself as the world’s largest leader in the mobile network market. Few months back India reached a level where it became the world’s second largest mobile market. The rate of such growth is also remarkable at a percentage of 30 yearly. The rate of growth at present is far higher than that of China.
