2 billion USD will be handed out as loans and grants by US administration to players in telecom industry for the planned massive expansion of broadband internet access in order to create millions of new jobs and to stimulate the economy further. Joe Biden, US Vice President announced on 17 December in Georgia about investing in 18 broadband projects in 17 states an amount totaling 183 million USD.

Four categories of award has been announced as Middle Mile award for building broadband connections in communities who lack sufficient broadband access, Last Mile award to build infrastructure of broadband of homes, hospitals and schools, Public Computing Award for expanding computer center capacity in libraries, community colleges and other pubic venues and finally Sustainable Adoption Award for innovative projects and promoting broadband demand among groups where the technology has been traditionally underutilized.
