Verizon Wireless put next generation PON (passive optical network) under trial which they named as XG PON planning to transmit data at 10 Gbps in downlink and 2.4 Gbps in uplink. This ambitious plan is not a surprise at all as Verizon established themselves as the most aggressive wireless service provider in US in past years. 

The trial conducted a successful test with Huawei Technologies on a dedicated PON by overlaying fiber providing FiOS service to customer premise in Southern Massachusetts which found zero interference in XG PON signals with existing 2.5 Gbps GPON network.
